Experience the Glory of the Dubai Opera

The Dubai Opera

Dubai is a city known for grandiosity, so it’s no wonder that the famous Dubai Opera is located in its very own Opera District in Downtown. Here’s a guide on everything you need to know ahead of your visit, including details about Rove Hotel in Downtown which puts you in the heart of this exciting city.

The Dubai Opera opened in 2016. It was developed by Emaar Properties and became the first Emirati Opera House. The building was designed by award-winning architect Janus Rostock, with the building taking around 3 years to complete. It is an elegant and modern space that invites natural light along with visitors from all over the world. It is incredibly detailed with hi-tech systems in place for excellent lighting and acoustics.

It is ideally situated in Downtown, a cosmopolitan part of Dubai where you can find yourself among the skyscrapers that make up the iconic skyline. You’ll be within walking distance of other must-visit spots in the city, including the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. The Dubai Opera can’t be missed with its transparent glimmering surfaces which beckon passers-by.

Visitors will be taken by the architecture of the Dubai Opera which is designed to resemble a traditional dhow boat. The venue has hosted thousands of events, both public and private – weddings included! It has become firmly entrenched in the Dubai landscape, showcasing top productions from around the globe.

Visitors can learn more about the architecture of the Dubai Opera and its history, backstage secrets, and impressive technology suite by booking tickets for the Grand Tour which is hosted by staff daily.

This performing arts centre can seat 2,000 people in multiple formats as it can be converted to suit the occasion. The Dubai Opera can transform into three spaces, including a theatre, a concert hall, and a ‘flat floor’ which can be used for banquets, conferences, and the like. Some of the most popular performances at the Dubai Opera to date include classic ballets such as the Nutcracker and Swan Lake and international artists such as Julio Iglesias and the ‘king of Opera,’ Placido Domingo.

With a diverse range of uses, the Dubai Opera hosts various events including theatre performances, opera, ballet, orchestras, concerts, fashion shows, live entertainment, conferences, galleries and art exhibitions.

The Dubai Opera is accessible to all. The box office is open from 10am – 9pm at the Opera Plaza on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, though you can also purchase tickets online. The dress code for attending a Dubai Opera Show is formal.
